I really enjoyed the way Marie-Louise Jensen captured the time period so well here, drawing the reader back into the servants' quarters and the stables of the 18th century. Will she ever be truly free of the terror of her father's death? But while Charlie tries to grasp happiness where she can find it, the shadow of the past looms over her. Disguising herself as a boy, she puts her skill with horses to good use by finding employment at a grand country estate, drawing the notice of a kind man far above her station in life. I feel there is something crucial missing here (like a profile or an additional storyline) because it doesn’t thread together nicely for me and so the ending felt disjoint from the build-up of the story.Summary: Really enjoyable historical adventure with a great romance.Īfter her father is brutally murdered, Charlotte escapes the city to try to find a new life, and to avoid the vicious killer who is surely tracking her down. I went into the book store yesterday and asked for a ‘dirty thriller’ - not even sure what that means - but the book store lady and Louise delivered! I couldn’t put this book down and finished it last night night. Or, it could be I’ve read so many thrillers at this point that it takes a lot to surprise me and keep my attention I suppose. I’ve read many more thrillers that are fast paced and keep my attention.not sure why I’m missing what others are raving about. I picked up many books and finished those, in between reading this one.
It keeps you guessing until the very end. To make it even more intriguing she has developed a condition that makes it impossible for her to recognize any faces. As she tried to figure it out, her suppositions are confused by new happenings. She finds herself covered in blood and can't remember what happened. Ali has been on a date with someone she met online.
